Biography
Jack & Jack, consisting of the songwriters, performers, and content creators Jack Gilinsky and Jack Johnson, craft a polished, sun-soaked blend of pop, rap, and dance sounds. The pair, long known affectionately as the Jacks, built their initial momentum in 2014 through uploads on video platforms, audio-sharing services, and additional social networks. Their self-released first EP, Calibraska, reached number 12 on the Billboard 200 in 2015, and they joined forces with dance producer Jonas Blue on the global smash “Rise” two years later. Following the arrival of their first album, A Good Friend Is Nice, in 2019, the duo stepped away to pursue individual paths before resurfacing independently in 2022 with the single “Runaway.”
The two have been close since kindergarten, when a series of brief comedic clips posted online in 2013 helped them cultivate a dedicated audience. Their music debut arrived the next year via the relaxed “Distance” and the upbeat “Wild Life,” the latter entering the Billboard Hot 100 shortly after high-school graduation. During 2015 they issued the well-placed Calibraska EP, joined Katelyn Jae and Dyllan Murray on the Pop Nation Tour, and contributed to Murray’s “Firecracker.” Their 2017 Gone EP marked their first release on Island, and they closed the year with the standalone “Beg.”
A run of singles followed in 2018—“Closure,” “Stay with Me,” and the Jonas Blue collaboration “Rise”—with the last track reaching the Top Ten across multiple territories and securing more than a dozen gold or platinum awards. It later appeared on both Blue’s self-titled album and Jack & Jack’s A Good Friend Is Nice. Gilinsky issued his solo debut “My Love,” featuring Don Toliver, in 2020 and confirmed the duo’s break; “Lose Somebody,” which includes Iann Dior, arrived soon after. Johnson, recording as JVCKJ, released the EP Pastel: The Early Days late that year and two additional singles throughout 2021. The Jacks reconvened as independents in 2022 for “Runaway.”
