New York-based singer/songwriter Elliot Moss crafts downcast electronic pop songs that he records and mixes almost entirely on his own. Emerging during the mid-2010s, he issued Highspeeds along with its breakout single “Slip,” both built on minimalist arrangements, understated production details, and lyrics centered on darkness and loss, all delivered in a vocal approach frequently likened to Justin Vernon, James Blake, and Thom Yorke. His next full-length, A Change in Diet, arrived in 2020.

The self-produced debut Highspeeds first appeared in 2014 through the independent imprint Bad Future before receiving a wider release the next year via American label Grand Jury, Canadian label Dine Alone, and U.K. label Play It Again Sam. Early performances were solo affairs that included sets at the CMJ and South by Southwest festivals, yet Moss later formed a five-piece band to handle live dates. The Highspeeds track “Slip” accumulated nearly 30 million streams. A new single, “Without the Lights,” surfaced in 2016 and was followed in 2017 by “Closedloop”; both cuts later appeared on that year’s Boomerang EP. In early 2020 he released his sophomore album, the poignant and anxious A Change in Diet.
