Xavier Dunn emerged from Australia in the mid-2010s with a soothing, relaxed aesthetic that fused opulent indie folk textures and ethereal electronica in a style that evoked Bon Iver. Recognized equally as a versatile instrumentalist who writes and performs his own material and as a producer, he first drew notice through the 2016 covers EP BIMYOU, which reimagined tracks by Iggy Azalea and A$AP Rocky, before issuing a series of original releases highlighted by the Airling collaboration “Give In,” a track that ascended to the summit of viral charts in Australia and the U.S.

A Sydney native, Dunn grew up in a household steeped in music, where both parents served as instructors and four siblings likewise built careers in the field. Early experience performing on multiple instruments within regional string and ensemble groups naturally led toward his later identity as a multi-instrumentalist songwriter and producer. While attending university he gravitated toward electronically driven production, creating remixes and tracks for artists such as Feki and GRMM, and discovered his own singing voice after encountering Bon Iver’s For Emma, Forever Ago.

Widespread recognition arrived with BIMYOU, whose gentle indie folk arrangements included A$AP Rocky’s “Fuckin’ Problems” and Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.” Subsequent originals such as “Scattered” and the Airling duet “Give In” signaled a shift toward indie electronic territory and stronger streaming-platform traction. After opening Australian dates for Goldfrapp and Broods, Dunn issued his second EP, Isic Tutor, in 2018.
