London-based six-piece supergroup Youth of the Apocalypse, known as YOTA, emerged from the varied cultural roots of its lineup and channels a genre-blurring fusion of hip-hop and indie rock centered on memorable hooks. The project traces its origins to 2018, when Klaxons frontman Jamie Reynolds and Gorillaz guitarist Jeff Wootton, inspired by Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo, decided to explore hip-hop themselves. Through an intermediary producer in Los Angeles they connected with American rapper Young Lazarus, then enlisted Gorillaz bassist Seye Adelekan, drummer Jay Sharrock, and DJ Twiggy Garcia to complete the roster.

Their opening release, “Drop the Bomb,” arrived that year featuring MF Doom alongside producer James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco; the track evoked early-Kanye sampling aesthetics within its nostalgic hip-hop framework. Later in 2018 they issued the follow-up “In the Future,” a harder-edged rock cut built around an anthemic chorus. Attention from established peers led to a 2019 collaboration in which Noel Gallagher co-wrote and lent vocals to “Fire in My Mind.”
