Toni Zenet came into the world in 1967 in Málaga, Spain, and later settled in Madrid, where he works as both a jazz vocalist and an actor. His cited influences range from the jazz singers Chet Baker and Billie Holiday to an array of Latin styles extending from flamenco to tango. He first built a career in acting during the 1990s, with screen credits that include a role in Juan Antonio Bardem’s El Joven Picasso (1994) and appearances across various television programs. Zenet released his first full-length solo album, Los Mares de China, in 2008 on the label El Volcán Música. The songs were written by lyricist Javier Laguna, and the project contains the promotional single “Soñar Contigo.” Although commercial traction developed slowly, the album advanced steadily on the Spanish albums chart over the course of 2009 and ultimately reached number 21.
