Biography
The Detroit sleaze metal outfit Zug Izland characterized its songwriting in promotional copy as “an exploration of imperfect human morality brought forth through the imagery of a pure fantasy.” Yet the group’s beginnings as the touring ensemble behind Insane Clown Posse’s Violent J offered a clearer guide to its musical direction. Fronted by vocalist Syn, the lineup featured guitar by Mike P, a onetime ICP producer, alongside drummer Little Pig, keyboardist Dan Miller, and bassist B Nestor, who soon supplanted founding bassist Guido Milligan. Taking its name from a rundown industrial location in Detroit, the five-piece aligned itself with the Psychopathic Records roster, intermittently adding to other artists’ recordings while shaping its own debut alongside J. The band also delivered a standout performance at the 2002 Gathering of the Juggalos. Its first full-length album, Cracked Tiles, reached stores in January 2003. To promote the release, Zug Izland embarked on an intensive touring schedule that included shows alongside the similarly inclined New York City rap-metal act Dope.
