After spending years in the underground, the Austrian punk rock trio 3 Feet Smaller broke into the Top Ten of the national albums chart in 2009 with its fourth full-length release. The group formed in Vienna in 2000 and features Marcus Smaller on vocals and guitar, the General on bass, and Roberto Franko on drums. From the outset the band cultivated a reputation for relentless live performances, issuing its debut album, Damn, We Need a Title for This Record, on Pate Records in 2001. The follow-up, Insert Album Title Here: .......... (2002), yielded the single “One Night Stand,” and the next studio effort, 3rd Strike (2004), was accompanied by the five-year anniversary concert DVD Five Years of Bowling Punk (2005). Personnel changes occurred around that period, after which several years elapsed before the band resurfaced with December 32nd (2009). Marking its first release on Sony following the departure from Pate Records, the album became the group’s commercial breakthrough, entering the Austrian Top Ten and producing the hit single “Tonight.”
