Alarum

Hailing from Australia, Alarum crafts an ultratechnical strain of thrash and death metal that edges into jazz fusion territory, drawing primary influence from Cynic and Atheist. Guitarist Mark Evans and drummer Matthew Racovalis launched the project in 1992, during which time the group laid down multiple demos prior to finalizing its roster in late 1995 through the addition of vocalist and bassist Mark Palfreyman alongside second guitarist Scott Young. Two further years dedicated to composition and practice preceded the eventual appearance of the debut full-length Fluid Motion, which met with mixed critical response. Alarum persists in composing and staging shows across Australia, although the long-awaited follow-up album remains unreleased.
