British composer, arranger, and conductor Ben Foster completed his training at both the National Film and Television School and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Early in the 2000s his first recorded work appeared on albums by such rock and teen-pop acts as Toploader, Gary Barlow, S Club, and Nikki Cleary. He soon moved into scoring short films, completing his first feature, Playground Logic, in 2004. In the roles of arranger, orchestrator, or conductor he contributed to higher-profile projects that included The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (2005), Death at a Funeral (2007), and 27 Dresses (2008). When the BBC revived the science-fiction series Doctor Who, Foster was engaged to arrange and conduct Murray Gold’s score; those duties extended to three soundtrack albums issued by Silva Screen Records in 2007 and 2008. On the related series Torchwood he shared composer credit with Gold, resulting in a soundtrack released 22 September 2008. He subsequently composed the entire score for the miniseries Torchwood: Children of Earth, whose soundtrack appeared on 11 August 2009.
