Biography
Black Buddafly formed as an R&B outfit anchored by sisters Aminata "Amina" Schmahl and Safietou "Jazz" Schmahl, both of Senegalese and German descent. After arriving in Los Angeles, the pair initially built their profile in Germany under the earlier name Choyce, a contract they signed with Germany's RCA while still teenagers. Older sister Sophie completed the lineup at that stage, making the act a trio until her exit later reduced them to a duo. In the early 2000s they adopted the Black Buddafly name, issuing their first Def Jam single, "Rock-A-Bye," in 2005. The label followed with the 2006 release "Bad Girl," which featured rapper Fabolous, yet no further official group material appeared after Sophie's departure. The 2011 mixtape compilation Worst Of.... Black Buddafly: The Forgotten MP3s collected earlier recordings, and Amina entered VH1's television series Love and Hip-Hop in 2013 ahead of starting a solo career.
