Biography
Dallas-born Bobby Sessions carved out an advantage among his peers through an unconventional perspective on hip-hop that pointed toward lasting achievement. His debut album, LOA (Law of Attraction), arrived in 2015 and earned praise for its incisive lyrics and themes, prompting Sessions to expand his focus on American politics and society through the RVLTN series.
Raised in Pleasant Grove, Dallas, Texas, Sessions experienced a shift when his family moved roughly twenty miles beyond the city limits to a tranquil suburb. There he concentrated on academics, especially poetry, which served as his primary means of self-expression. He continued performing while in college until he discovered that placing his poems over beats produced a stronger impact. In 2015 High Standardz became his label home and issued the reflective LOA (Law of Attraction). Rejecting the subject matter favored by many peers, Sessions offered messages of empowerment alongside accounts of social and racial inequities, as heard on “Black America.” Def Jam executive Paul Rosenberg took notice, leading the label to sign Sessions and release the single “Like Me” in 2018. Later that year Sessions delivered his second album, RVLTN (Chapter 1): The Divided States of Amerikkka, which featured a new version of “Black Neighborhood” that included Killer Mike. RVLTN (Chapter 2): The Art of Resistance followed shortly afterward, accompanied by additional solo material and guest appearances. In 2020 he completed the trilogy with his third album, RVLTN (Chapter 3): The Price of Freedom, once more challenging conventions through his examination of American politics and society.
