Biography
Burning Witches, an all-female heavy metal outfit from Switzerland, deliver a ferocious mix of classic power metal and rapid-fire thrash that echoes the spirit of Dio, Judas Priest, and Grave Digger. Guitarist Romana Kalkuhl launched the project in 2015 in Brugg, drawing together bassist Jeanine Grob, vocalist Seraina Telli, and drummer Lala Frischknecht as the initial lineup. Producers V.O. Pulver of Panzer and Schmier of Destruction were brought in to craft the self-titled debut album that appeared in 2017. Nuclear Blast noticed the release and signed the group the year after. With the addition of second guitarist Sonia "Anubis" Nusselder, the resulting five-piece unveiled its second album, Hexenhammer, in 2018. Nuclear Blast later combined the original debut with a live EP and reissued the package in 2019 as Burning Witches + Burning Alive.
