Biography
Aida Cuevas, hailed as "the Queen of the Ranchera," counts Carlos Cuevas among her siblings, and he has matched her accomplishments through his own command of the bolero, a Spanish dance style similar to the rhumba. In 1989 Cuevas received the Best Male Interpreter award at Mexico's Festival OTI, and he remains one of Mexico's truly gifted artists. Although the sounds of Mexico continue to anchor his recordings, Cuevas has ranged widely in search of ear-catching material. His album Recopilatorio: 1996-1998 showcases his interpretations of two pieces by British composer/guitarist Mike Oldfield.
