Charlie Sloth

Charlie Sloth serves as a BBC radio presenter overseeing multiple hip-hop programs, among them the freestyle showcase Fire in the Booth, while also operating as an MC who has issued several solo projects. Raised in Camden, London, he began working as a DJ spinning hip-hop tracks for the pirate station Raw FM. His early mixtapes The Big Boot and Secret Society appeared in 2004 and 2006 respectively. During 2007 the clip “Guided Tour of Camden” earned the Most Original Video prize at Canada’s CraveFest awards; the same year his web series Being Charlie Sloth featured him performing in sketches, conducting interviews, and covering London’s underground rap circuit. BBC executives recruited him three years afterward to host programs on BBC 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra. Virgin issued the first Sloth-curated collection, Charlie Sloth: Hood Heat, Vol. 1, in 2014, followed by a second volume the next year. Continued audience growth over the ensuing period led to the arrival of his first full-length album, The Plug, in 2017.
