Biography
Emerging from Lewisham, Russ Millions—also known as Russ or Russ Splash—ranks among U.K. drill’s most energetic MCs by steering the genre away from its denser, grittier textures toward a fluid, self-assured, and rapid-fire approach. Breakthrough momentum arrived via the online surge of 2018’s “Gun Lean,” the first U.K. drill single to reach the U.K. Top Ten, which was soon eclipsed by the number-seven success of “Keisha & Becky” in 2019 and the chart-topping “Body” in 2021, the first U.K. drill track to claim the summit.
After composing his opening verses in the summer of 2016, the Lewisham-based rapper charged into the scene and surfaced late that year with a run of raw drill cuts. Standouts included the feverish “Trap Not Carni,” the heavy “Bludclart,” and the cocky “Splash Out,” each highlighting his nimble cadence and singular vocal style. A prominent feature on Loski’s swinging “Olympic Chinging” quickly accumulated millions of views and drew attention from nearby labels. Following his signing with PressPlay, Russ registered nationally with the viral “Gun Lean,” titled after the dance showcased in his earliest clips. As the first U.K. drill song to secure a Top Ten placement, it drew widespread attention through its catchy steps, shifting flows, and unrestrained wordplay, spawning a nationwide dance craze and later resurfacing via the “Gun Lean (Remix)” that added contributions from Digga D, LD, Taze, Ms. Banks, and Lethal Bizzle.
Developing into one of U.K. drill’s leading figures, Russ’s “crashment” fusion of drill and bashment powered the next major hit, 2019’s “Keisha & Becky.” Like its predecessor, the track moved drill’s sharp-edged content toward boastful territory while saluting fans through its “Very sexy, Keisha, Becky” hook. A further remix featuring Manchester’s Aitch drove the single to number seven, where it lingered for 31 weeks.
Across 2019 and 2020 he maintained a steady profile through joint releases such as “Mr Sheeen” with CGM’s Digga D, “Vida Loca” alongside Canadian MC Pressa, and “Splash” with N-Dubz’s Dappy. The EPs Russ Hour and My Son appeared in late 2020. In 2021 he delivered a charged freestyle on Fumez the Engineer’s Plugged In series alongside frequent partner Buni. He then issued the second Tion Wayne collaboration, “Body,” echoing the earlier track’s spirit by swapping in fresh female references (“English girl named Fiona, African girl named Adeola”). The song topped charts in the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand, aided by an all-star remix that included Bugzy Malone, ArrDee, Fivio Foreign, and additional guests. The solo cut “Big Shark” arrived the following July.
