Biography
Formed in the Netherlands, the production outfit Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo brings together DJ Charly Lownoise, born Ramon Roelofs in 1968 in The Hague, and DJ Menthal Theo, born Theo Nabuurs in 1965 in Den Bosch. The happy hardcore pair first crossed paths while working the turntables on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Following major underground breakthroughs in their home country, Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo began scaling the German charts via the track “Live at London” and released “Wonderful Days” in 1995 upon signing with PolyGram, although they continued pressing vinyl through Charly Lownoise’s own Master Maximum imprint. Charlottenburg appeared that same year as their debut full-length. Old School Hardcore and On Air arrived the next year, while the ten-track set Kiss Your Sweet Ears Goodbye surfaced two years after that.
