Biography
Born in the USA, Cynthia Clawson earned acclaim among discerning listeners for the breadth of her vocal approach as a gospel singer. She entered an early apprenticeship in sacred music at three, and as the daughter of a southern Baptist preacher she soon rose to featured soloist at multiple church conventions. Her professional path has encompassed numerous jingles and station identifications for the Radio and Television Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, an organization on which she remains one of the most familiar presences. Wed to actor and writer Ragan Courtney, with whom she often collaborates on material, Clawson has contributed guest vocals to many gospel projects while maintaining her own solo output. She has maintained a steady television presence through regular appearances on the Christian programs The 700 Club and The PTL Club, and she has partnered with evangelists including James Robinson. International recognition followed by the close of the 1970s via a sequence of Triangle Records albums that secured her a 1978 nomination for Best Gospel Female Vocalist.
