Biography
Deemi, an R&B vocalist raised in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant section, began treating her singing with commitment while still in high school at Manhattan's Talent Unlimited High School. Producers Chris Styles and Bruce Waynne entered her path during 1998. Although the pair assisted in shaping an early demo, she soon concluded that drawing from personal episodes—such as the physical abuse inflicted by her father and her experience raising two children before the age of 21—would prove more meaningful than simply addressing familiar romantic topics. Through an alliance linking the separate ventures headed by Styles and Waynne, the latter recognized as one half of Midi Mafia, she secured a deal with Atlantic, positioning her debut album The Soundtrack of My Life for release in 2007.
