Urban vocalist Truth Hurts launched her professional journey in striking style through Dr. Dre’s support. The hugely prominent West Coast rap producer brought her aboard his Aftermath imprint following his chart-topping work on Mary J. Blige’s “Family Affair” and Eve’s “Let Me Blow Your Mind,” at the precise moment he also introduced his onetime songwriting collaborator Knoc-Turn’al alongside the comeback of golden-age legend Rakim. In the same manner he had done for those artists, Dre shaped a sure-fire lead single titled “Addictive” for Truth Hurts. Although DJ Quik, not Dre, actually helmed the track, Dre lent his full endorsement by securing a featured duet from Rakim and securing the song heavy rotation across radio and MTV.
