Biography
Distinguished by her smoky vocals and introspective takes on relationships, Delacey crafts sincere atmospheric pop in her solo work. Feature appearances on EDM cuts by the Knocks and Alex Midi preceded her solo introduction via the alluring “My Man” in 2019, which reached the Top 40 on Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart. During the same period she built credits as a songwriter for the Chainsmokers, Zara Larsson, and Halsey, among them the latter’s number-one single “Without Me.” Her debut album Black Coffee arrived in 2020, highlighted by the viral track “Cruel Intentions,” and she sustained visibility through later releases such as 2021’s “Boy with the Blues” and 2023’s “Man on the Moon,” all while supplying material for Justin Bieber and Anne-Marie.
Brittany Amaradio, raised in Orange County, California, began performing and studying piano and guitar early on. Following high school she spent a short time in Manhattan, where she composed “New York City” the day before resigning from her job and returning to the West Coast. Once established in Los Angeles she secured a publishing agreement with Universal, after which “New York City” reached the Chainsmokers and appeared on their 2015 EP Bouquet. She concentrated on songwriting for the subsequent three years until, under the name Delacey, she joined Alex Midi on the modest 2016 dance success “In the Air Tonight,” a Phil Collins cover; that same year her vocals featured on “Dream It Impossible,” used in a global smartphone campaign.
She extended her co-writing work to include Demi Lovato, Sabrina Carpenter, and Lost Kings, and in 2018 Halsey issued the Delacey-assisted single “Without Me,” which ascended to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2019. Weeks later another of her compositions, Zara Larsson’s “Ruin My Life,” also charted on the Hot 100. Around this time Delacey joined HITCO and issued her first official single, “My Man,” in March 2019; it entered the Top 40 on both the Pop Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay charts, attaining number 33 on the latter. Additional singles followed throughout the year as she prepared her first full-length project, and Black Coffee emerged in March 2020, propelled by “Cruel Intentions.”
She maintained her behind-the-scenes contributions, co-authoring Justin Bieber’s “Unstable,” Chelsea Cutler’s “When I Close My Eyes,” several Anne-Marie tracks including “To Be Young” featuring Doja Cat, and Dove Cameron’s international hit “Boyfriend.” On her own behalf she issued “Boy with the Blues” in 2021, the 2022 acoustic duet “Manly Man” with Emily Weisband, and “Man on the Moon” the following year, which she wrote and produced alongside Ido Zmishlany of Last Week.
