Emerging among the wave of talents from the drill collective OFB during the late 2010s, Tottenham rapper Dezzie seized listener attention through sheer intensity, driving forward his harsh stories with nonstop momentum. Once Headie One and RV had secured their places in the British mainstream, the next wave of the Tottenham collective OFB began advancing into U.K. drill, with high-energy Dezzie distinguishing himself by aligning the genre’s force with a bold, overexcited vocal style. He entered the scene in 2019 through the aggressive “Shmurda” and “Bad Breed,” then reached a national audience in November via “Drip No Drown,” his collaboration with fellow OFB rapper BandoKay that accumulated millions of views through its more self-assured take on the sound. Early in 2020 Dezzie joined the roster of One Records, the label established by OFB veteran Headie One, and shortly afterward recorded his first freestyle for PressPlay’s Lightwork series. His initial major solo success arrived in May with the powerful “Buss It,” while “Chucky” and “Just Cool” gathered substantial streams through their cooler versions of U.K. drill. Toward year’s end Dezzie maintained his run of releases by issuing the Headie One collaborations “Opp Diddy Bop” and “Chop It,” delivering a commanding set for the landmark U.K. freestyle show Daily Duppy, and appearing on Abra Cadabra’s massively popular “On Deck (Remix)” alongside other OFB figures. In 2021 he released his debut mixtape Uno Uno; drawing its name from his signature adlib, the project presented a nonstop sequence of high-octane drill tracks featuring Headie One, Abra Cadabra, BandoKay, and DoubleLz.
