Biography
Born in Murcia during 1980 within a Spanish region renowned for its active musical environment, singer-songwriter Diego Martin grew up in a household lacking any musical tradition yet developed an intense passion for music by his mid-teens. The sight of a school classmate playing guitar at age 15 immediately inspired his ambition to pursue songwriting and performance, although he waited until turning 18 before beginning self-taught lessons on the instrument and vocals at home. Over the following years, while employed at a gas station, he composed extensively and built up an extensive body of original songs whose themes centered on love and loss. Executives at DRO Atlantic eventually took notice of his mournful and reflective approach. Issued in 2006, his debut album Vivir No Es Solo Respirar (To Live Is Not Just to Breathe) achieved substantial chart success across Spain; the project contained only Martin’s own compositions and included a featured appearance by Raquel Rosario, vocalist with El Sueño de Morfeo. His second album, Puntos Suspensivos, arrived the next year, followed six years later by the pair Melicia in 2010 and Siendo in 2013. These releases generated multiple chart successes and drew critical acclaim for Martin’s growing artistic depth, even as his sound shifted toward a more aggressive, rock-driven style.
