Toronto-based Digital Poodle blends industrial textures with dance rhythms. Pupka and Reduct supplied the group’s early electronic programming, though repeated lineup shifts soon followed. By the time Combat appeared in 1997, vocalist Mouth 392 remained the sole founding member.

Digital Poodle formed in 1987 and issued its first six albums—Pay Attention, Poodle Crematorium, Snivel, Live Death and Baltic Work Force—on the independent Shadow imprint. After the label became DOVentertainment (Death of Vinyl) in 1991, the band stayed with the renamed company. Soul Crush marked their debut release under the new name and was succeeded by Work Terminal, which contained remixes drawn from Soul Crush together with three additional tracks.

Following a two-year break, Digital Poodle returned with the EP Elektronik Espionage, introducing fresh material that signaled a fresh chapter. The group then signed with California-based Cleopatra and delivered Division! in 1994. A year later came Noises: 1987-1994, a collection of early recordings, remixes and previously unreleased material. The band subsequently reentered the studio to complete Combat in 1997.
