Biography
Christian rapper Dre Murray came into the world and grew up inside Houston’s South Park development in Texas before relocating to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 2000 to pursue his education. The city that became his new base supported a thriving Christian hip-hop community, which helped shape his creative development. His debut projects arrived as Project Ghetto in 2003 and Manumit in 2008. Between 2010 and 2011, Murray collaborated with Wit on the Hell’s Paradise series. He subsequently joined Christon Gray, Alex Faith, and Swoope to establish the collective W.L.A.K. (We Live as Kings). In March 2013 the group issued its self-titled album, which achieved crossover appeal by reaching number one on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart, number seven on Top Rap Albums, and number 81 on the Billboard 200. Four months afterward Murray issued Gold Rush: Maybe One Day through the Collision label, where it climbed to number six on the Billboard Gospel chart.
