Biography
Eric Osterman and Ryan Weber established Eric & Magill in 2007 as longtime collaborators and multi-instrumentalists. Both musicians originated in Milwaukee and first performed together in the early emo/indie outfit Camden, after which Osterman relocated to Michigan while Weber remained behind to launch the working-class indie rock group Decibully and contribute to the Promise Ring. The pair reconnected that same year through a series of transcontinental exchanges, with Weber composing from a teaching position in Armenia and Osterman still based in Michigan. Their efforts produced the debut Eric & Magill album All Those I Know, a lush ten-song dream pop collection first issued as a free download in late 2010 and later issued on vinyl the next summer. Numerous collaborators lent support, among them musicians from Maritime, Dirty Projectors, Owen, and additional projects. Following completion of the album, the duo issued the online-only EP Kick the Covers, Vol. 1, comprising five cover versions honoring the bands of the musicians who had assisted on the record. In 2011 Weber relocated once more to serve with the Peace Corps in Kenya, while Osterman settled in Brooklyn; the two continued working via laptop-based recording rigs and steady online correspondence across continents. Those sessions yielded the Two Travelers EP and the second full-length Night Singers, both appearing in 2013.
