Biography
As the elder sister of Tina Campbell and spouse of her frequent creative partner Warryn Campbell, Erica Campbell rose to prominence with her sibling in the Warryn-produced duo Mary Mary. Throughout the 2000s and early 2010s the pair stood among the era’s most accomplished contemporary gospel acts. Every Mary Mary studio album issued from their 2000 debut through 2012 either reached or came within one position of the summit on Billboard’s Gospel Albums chart, and the duo collected multiple Grammy Awards along the way. Erica’s debut solo project, the eclectic Help, appeared in March 2014 and earned the Grammy Award for Best Gospel Album. Nearly every song on the set was co-written by Erica and Warryn, who also served as sole producer. Fronted by the single “A Little More Jesus,” described as a rustic, triumphant shouter, and the follow-up “Help,” a steady, organic shuffle boasting a guest verse from Lecrae, the album opened at number one on the Gospel Albums chart, climbed to number six on the all-genre Billboard 200, and ultimately claimed the Grammy for Best Gospel Album. Her eagerly anticipated sophomore outing, the well-received Help 2.0, surfaced in 2015 and likewise topped both the gospel and independent albums charts.
