Biography
A classically trained cellist, Friesen first rose to prominence through his longstanding association with The Paul Winter Consort. Sacred orchestral traditions and mid-’60s pop sensibilities shaped his approach in equal measure, the Beatles’ inventive cello placements in particular leaving a lasting impression during his early development. Extensive work with an eclectic range of musicians has continued to enlarge his artistic reach, resulting in recordings and performances with artists that include Dave Brubeck, Anthony Davis, Scott Cossu, and Steven Halpern.
