In summer 2000 four Viennese musicians launched a project called Funkalicious, comprising vocalist Michael "Paukee" Paukner, guitarist Dietmar "Diz" Schrödl, bassist Gerald Weichselbaum and drummer Gerhard Bergauer. The quartet issued the EP Deduction in 2002 and followed it with the debut album Perfekta in 2004, after which Bergauer exited the lineup one year later. Martin Scheer took over on drums, the ensemble pivoted from funk-rock to straight-ahead rock and adopted the name Excuse Me Moses. Two singles appeared next—"Summer Sun," helmed by producer Alexander Kahr, and "Not in Love Anymore"—before the band delivered its first album under the new identity, 1st Last Will, in summer 2007; the record peaked at number 13 and logged ten weeks on the charts. A non-album single, "Godzilla Killa (Superhero)," surfaced in January 2008, although an earlier version had already been included on the Deduction EP. The group also featured in the Falco biopic Falco -- Verdammt, Wir Leben Noch!, performing as the Austrian rock band Drahdiwaberl.
