Texas-based singer and songwriter Livingston crafts robust, emotionally charged pop that carries an unfiltered confessional streak. His first release under a major label, the 2020 single “Fairytale,” wove superhero motifs into teenage turmoil and wrapped Imagine Dragons–style arena dynamics in close-quarters vulnerability. After shifting to independent status in 2023, he doubled down on that raw emotional directness across multiple singles, which fed into the 2024 album A Hometown Odyssey; the project rose to the summit of the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart.

Raised in Denton, Texas, Drake Jon Livingston, Jr. first leaned on music to navigate anxiety, bullying, and personal insecurity. With earnings from filming a wedding using his father’s camera, he purchased his initial MIDI keyboard at age twelve and started creating tracks on a home computer. Entirely self-taught in songwriting, arrangement, and production, he generated potent demos that reached Elektra Records, leading to a contract in late 2019. Issued in early 2020, the debut single “Fairytale” functioned as autobiography, referencing several Pixar protagonists who had offered solace in his younger years. A follow-up, “Home,” appeared two months afterward.

Those two tracks anchored the debut EP Lighthouse, which surfaced in July 2020. Late that year he unveiled “Superkid,” initiating a run of singles that also comprised “Hercules” and “The Giver” and appeared on the second EP An Unlikely Origin Story in May 2021. Three further releases—“Message in a Bottle,” “The Author,” and “Religion”—preceded his exit from Elektra.

Reinventing himself as an independent artist in 2023, Livingston issued a rapid succession of singles throughout the next twelve months: “Lifetime,” “Hurricane,” “Half Life,” “Traitor,” and “Otherside.” Together with “Last Man Standing,” these songs formed the backbone of his third album, A Hometown Odyssey, which arrived in early 2024. Despite the absence of major-label support, the record claimed the top spot on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and prompted his inaugural headlining tour.
