Fermin IV stands out for possessing one of the most distinctive vocal styles in Latin rap, an attribute that traces back to his initial exposure to American hip-hop acts of the 1980s. His earliest group, Prófuga de Metate, issued an independently produced demo in 1994. The following year keyboardist Toy, previously of Pasto Pato and La Ultima de Lucas, linked up with him to establish Control Machete. The resulting Mexican trio swiftly rose to global prominence as a leading Latin rap act, propelled by the chart-topping releases Mucho Barato in 1997 and Artilleria Pesada Presenta in 1999.

Following his relocation from Monterrey to Cuernavaca, Morelos, Fermin IV began developing material for a debut solo project. Universal Music Mexico secured him to a recording contract in February 2001, resulting in the album Boomerang, which contained the track “004” featured on the soundtrack to the film XXX.
