Control Machete, a Mexican Latin rap outfit, entered the regional rock and rap circuit during the mid-'80s and issued its first album, Mucho Barato, in July 1997. Fermín IV, Pato (later known as Patricio Ch. Elizalde), and Toy Kenobi (Toy Hernández) guided the trio, which resurfaced in March 1999 with Artilleria Pesada under the production of Antonio Hernández and Jason Roberts. Fermín IV also cut the track “Siempre Peligroso” with Cypress Hill for the compilation Grandes Exitos en Español, contributed to Tweaker—Chris Vrenna’s side project—and performed alongside the Los Angeles-based hip-hop group OMD. These external commitments likely prompted his departure shortly after the 2002 release of his solo album Boomerang. The remaining members reconvened in 2003, unveiling a fresh approach on the album Uno, Dos: Bandera.
