In 1998 the thriving independent hip-hop environment of Los Angeles, already home to Beck and Sukia, welcomed an unexpected arrival from Monterey: the Mexican pair known as Plastilina Mosh. Programmer Alejandro Rosso and vocalist/guitarist Jonaz, likewise likened to the Beastie Boys, first reached U.S. listeners at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas, where Beck took notice and funded a Bong Load session with Tom Rothrock, the same producer who had cut “Loser” with Beck. After signing with Capitol, the duo tracked their first album, enlisting additional support from the Angeleno collective Sukia and guest vocals by Anónimo of Café Tacuba. Aquamosh appeared in June 1998; Juan Manuel arrived two years afterward on Astralwerks. Moving next to EMI, they delivered Hola Chicuelos in July 2003 and returned to South by Southwest the following year. Tasty + B Sides surfaced in April 2006, bundled with a DVD containing videos and supplemental material. Following a set at the inaugural South Padre Music Festival, Plastilina Mosh issued All U Need Is Mosh in 2008.
