Biography
Electro-pop duo Miranda! came together in Buenos Aires during 2001, built around singer/songwriter Alejandro Sergi and Julianna Gattas. Rising through the local electronica circuit via intimate gigs and private parties, the pair quickly earned standing among the stronger acts in sugar-pop and dance circles. Their command of spectacle—marked by flamboyant costumes and theatrical stage behavior—formed the foundation of their appeal. They borrowed the name Miranda! from screen actor Osvaldo Miranda, who starred in the 1937 film Los Muchachos de Antes No Usaban Gomina; that vintage glamour became the template for the visual extravagance the group would pursue.
The duo issued their first album, Es Mentira, in 2002 on Secsy Discos. International attention arrived two years later with Sin Restricciones, whose track “Don” became a major hit. After signing with Pelo Music in 2005, they issued the live recording En Vivo Sin Restricciones!, captured at Buenos Aires’ Gran Rex Theater. The 2006 EP Quereme! preceded their third studio album, El Disco de Tu Corazón, in 2007; that set featured guest work from Mexican pop/rock artist Julieta Venegas and Spanish electro-pop outfit Fangoria. A 2008 compilation titled El Templo del Pop was followed in 2009 by the studio album Es Imposible! and the CD/DVD package Directo!.
Magistral, their fifth full-length, surfaced in 2011 and was succeeded the next year by the live double-CD/DVD set Luna Magistral. Safari arrived in 2014, presenting both acoustic and electronic renditions of its ten tracks. Another collection, El Templo del Pop, along with the two-CD/DVD release Vivo, appeared in 2016. Miranda!’s seventh studio album, Fuerte—their first for Sony—came out in 2017.
