The Mexican indie pop trio Hello Seahorse! began assembling their earliest recordings in the opening years of the 2000s, with the lineup then consisting of Denise Gutiérrez (aka Vanil'la Face and Lo Blondo), Oro de Neta, and Bonnz!. Their first full-length release, ...And the Jellyfish Parade, appeared in 2006, while the mini-album Hoy a las Ocho arrived on Magic Marker two years afterward. Those two projects presented a playful and effervescent brand of indie pop that evoked bands such as Architecture in Helsinki and It's a Musical!. By the arrival of their third album, Bestia, in 2009, Hello Seahorse! had shifted toward a noticeably darker and more reflective sensibility. Their fourth album, Lejos. No Tan Lejos., surfaced in January 2011 through Nacional Records, displaying an even more polished and contemplative musical direction.
