Porter's forward-thinking concepts and willingness to push boundaries positioned the alt-rock outfit at the forefront of Mexico's rock evolution following the turn of the millennium. The group came together in Guadalajara, Jalisco, during May 2004, assembling a configuration that echoed key inspirations including Radiohead, Pixies, and Café Tacuba. Diego joined as the synth bass and programming specialist, rounding out the core rock instrumentation supplied by guitarists Fernando and Victor plus drummer Juan Pablo. Their European-inflected approach differentiated them amid Guadalajara's largely punk-driven environment. Tercer Piso Records, an independent imprint, put out the debut album Donde los Ponys Pastan in 2004. Reactor 105.7 placed the single "Espiral" into heavy rotation, generating rapid and extensive local attention. Comparable airplay greeted the follow-up tracks "Daphne," "Vaquero Galáctico," and "Bipolar," establishing Donde los Ponys Pastan as a daring and noteworthy first statement. Subsequent years brought invitations to major North American festivals, among them Festival Vive Latino in 2005, 2006, and 2007, Corona Music Fest in 2005, and SXSW in Austin, TX. The band shared bills with Zoé, Modest Mouse, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Incubus. Atemahawke appeared as the sophomore release in 2007. The English-language single "Host of a Ghost" helped propel the album up Mexican rock charts, where it ranked among the year's standout alternative titles. The momentum secured a slot at Motorokrfest '07 alongside the Killers, the Dandy Warhols, Austin TV, and Molotov. Atemahawke advanced to number 11 on Mexican pop sales charts within months, marking Porter as one of Mexican alt-rock's quickest ascenders.
