Los Claxons took shape in Monterrey, Mexico, around 2004 as a pop/rock outfit founded by Mauricio Sánchez on vocals and guitar, Nacho Llantada on vocals and guitar, and Edgar "Cholo" Lozano on electric guitar. Pablo González Sarre came aboard on bass late in 2005, and Cesáreo Castillo settled in as the permanent drummer during 2009. Drawing on an eclectic mix that spans classic and indie rock as well as Latin American singer/songwriters, the group issued its first album, Sin Ganga, through the independent Movic Records imprint in 2005. Steady grassroots buzz, fueled by strong social-network presence, carried the band across Mexico, culminating that December in an opening slot for Diego Torres at the Monterrey Arena.

Warner Music's decision to handle redistribution of the debut album in 2006 broadened their reach. Their sophomore effort, En Primera, arrived the following year and featured Alberto Ramos on drums. Momentum continued to build, leading to support dates on Maroon 5's Mexican tour in November 2008. The self-titled third album, co-produced by Baltazar Hinojosa and engineered by Grammy winner Javier Garza, debuted at the summit of Mexico's digital charts when it surfaced in May 2010.

By 2011 Los Claxons ranked among Mexico's leading acts; their fourth release, Camino a Encontrarte, earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Rock/Pop Album. Teaming with veteran producer Thom Russo (Jay-Z, Michael Jackson), they cut the follow-up, Un Día de Sol, which appeared in 2013. Early in 2015 the band issued a set of live bootlegs captured at major concerts and confirmed they had reentered the studio for a sixth album. That project, Centro, Sur y al Otro Lado, reached stores in October, led by the single "Hasta Que Vuelvas a Verme."
