Fetty Luciano, raised in Brooklyn’s East Flatbush area, first tried his hand at rapping while serving time behind bars. Less than twelve months after walking free, the GS9 affiliate made his Def Jam bow with the gritty 2018 mixtape Story to Tell, which included a guest spot from crewmate Bobby Shmurda.
During his Brooklyn childhood, Remy Marshall stood out for his basketball skills, much like his older sibling Chad, better known as Rowdy Rebel. In 2014 the still-teenaged Marshall, his brother, newly signed Epic artist Bobby Shmurda, and other GS9 members faced arrest on multiple counts and ultimately received prison sentences. Taking cues from his incarcerated sibling, Remy began writing verses inside, then, just two days after his December 2017 release, threw himself into recording. He quickly secured a Def Jam deal, and that August the label issued his first two singles: “On the Wall,” trading lines with the still-locked-up Shmurda, and “FASHO,” which featured Gunna. Both cuts landed on Story to Tell, the ten-song commercial mixtape that arrived that October.
