Emerging as a gruff Brooklyn drill rapper, Dusty Locane experienced rapid success through his initial commercial singles released during 2020 and 2021, especially with "Rollin N Controllin Freestyle" and "Rolando (Caught in the Rain)." These releases paved the way for his first full-length project, Untamed, which secured a position on the Billboard 200.

Originating from Canarsie—the identical area that produced Pop Smoke, the musician most often likened to him—Locane absorbed the sounds of icons including 2Pac, the Notorious B.I.G., and Jay-Z during his formative years. However, his personal ambitions only began to materialize in 2020 when he put out "Rollin N Controllin Freestyle" and "Rolando (Caught in the Rain)." The accompanying video for "Rollin N Controllin Freestyle" amassed over one million views before 2020 concluded, yet widespread virality struck in January of the next year. Early February saw the arrival of his next two commercial offerings, "Intro 2 Me, Pt. 1" and "Rumble." Subsequently, a follow-up installment to "Rollin N Controllin" surfaced, preceding the December launch of Untamed, which peaked at number 123 on the Billboard 200.
