Biography
The indie folk outfit Firekid blends synth textures with bluegrass influences and stems from Alabama native Dillon Hodges, who handles vocals, songwriting, and guitar while now calling Nashville home. After less than a year on the instrument, the young guitar prodigy started claiming competition wins by age 11. In his mid-teens he expanded his focus to include singing and songwriting, then captured the 2007 National Guitar Championship bluegrass title at just 17. That same year he independently issued his album Stormy Weather. Following college studies in Alabama, he relocated to Nashville for further musical development and put out the roots-oriented singer/songwriter album Rumspringa in 2013. He fused his bluegrass roots with a passion for Americana alongside touches of modern indie electronic and pop, adopted the Firekid performing name, and secured an Atlantic Records deal in spring 2015. The three-track live EP Live 2/19/15 surfaced that April, with the first full-length Firekid arriving in September.
