Biography
F.O.D. (Friends of Darkness) formed as a German synth-pop trio in Saxony, drawing from electronic body music, Neue Deutsche Welle, and present-day electronic dance music to create their trance-infused, dancefloor-oriented futurepop. That distinctive style first surfaced in the early 2000s through tracks such as those on Crucified, with further momentum arriving via the 2010 album Maschinentanz.
The group consists of Daniel, who records as eXcess D and handles vocals, keyboards, programming, composition, and arrangement; Andreas, known as An/dress and responsible for keyboards, programming, lyrics, composition, and arrangement; and André, billed as Andre van den Gerk and credited with keyboards, special effects, and presentation. Their recording career began in 2002 with the singles Krissi and Over Now/X-Celerate, followed by the albums Crucified in 2003 and Made in Germany in 2005. After signing with Fear Section, they issued Synthesizer Tanzmusik in 2008, featuring guest vocals by former Blutengel singer Eva Pölzing on multiple tracks, then delivered their second Fear Section release, Maschinentanz, in 2010. Throughout the 2010s the trio supplied remixes for electro-pop acts including Twisted Destiny and LastraX, later returning in 2021 when Leipzig-based producer Don BNNR reworked the track “Synthesizer Tanzmusik.”
