British singer-songwriter Folly Rae crafts an extroverted, polished pop sound whose bright production layers balance both emotional lows and highs. Early singles including 2016’s “U” and 2018’s “Sniper” quickly drew millions of streams.

Born Rachel Virtue in Hampstead, London, England, she trained in classical dance before shifting focus to music. After completing a year at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, Surrey, she began writing songs for other artists, among them sessions alongside Jake Gosling (Ed Sheeran, Demi Lovato). Her first release under the Folly Rae name arrived in 2014 with “Run for Cover,” which BBC Radio 1Xtra added to rotation.

In 2016 she appeared at the SXSW music festival in Texas, several months before issuing the July single “U.” The debut EP Money & Power surfaced the following month while “U” surpassed two million streams. Rae topped the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury Festival in June 2017 and soon afterward joined the roster of Black Butter Records. Early the next year Norwegian producer anton featured her on “i need u here (cortado),” after which she issued her own single “Sniper.” The track also accumulated millions of streams ahead of the August 2018 release of the Karma Club EP on Black Butter.
