Biography
South Korean quartet Forestella first assembled after claiming victory on the 2018 edition of Phantom Singer 2, where their distinctive blend of classical repertoire, pop interpretations, and reconfigured Korean traditional pieces captured widespread attention. Their first full-length release, Evolution, surfaced the same year under a twelve-month contract with Arts & Artists and climbed to number 13 on the domestic charts. The lineup—Bae Doo-hoon, Kang Hyung-ho, Cho Min-kyu, and Ko Woo-rim—had each entered the competition independently and advanced to the final twelve before being grouped together; they ultimately triumphed with inventive takes on current pop material. Subsequent touring and appearances on Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend followed, and early the next year their televised rendition of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” circulated widely online, drawing international listeners. A second album, Mystique, arrived months later, again demonstrating the group’s skill at reshaping both heritage pieces and modern hits. Late in 2019 the members paused collective work, allowing Cho and Kang to issue solo recordings, Bae to resume stage-musical roles, and Ko to concentrate on academic pursuits. Several standalone tracks appeared in 2020 before the four returned for a retrospective edition of Phantom Singer that reunited prior contestants and champions. Their third album, The Forestella, emerged afterward, pairing earlier singles with fresh material. In 2022 the ensemble completed its debut EP, The Beginning: World Tree, which entered the Korean charts at number 14 upon its May release.
