Francis on My Mind is an act rooted in Romania yet shaped by indie-pop sensibilities that highlight how youthful, nostalgic pop speaks across borders. The project has gradually expanded its reach in Western markets through appearances at both domestic and global talent showcases, while steadily building a catalog of singles centered on heartbreak, romance and fate, among them “On My Mind,” “Swimming Pools,” “This is My Time” and “Somebody Else But Me.”

Born Francesca Nicolescu in 2003 in the modest Romanian town of Onesti, she grew up as one of three siblings in a household that prized musical listening over performance experience; her father’s position at a local music academy supplied abundant exposure. Drawn to every shade of pop, she tested her abilities on the seventh season of Romania’s X Factor, the local edition of the Simon Cowell-originated British format. Her interpretations ranged from Aretha Franklin to Sam Smith, ultimately securing third place.

After inking a deal with Universal Music Romania, she adopted the name Francis on My Mind and issued her first single, the atmospheric and lovelorn “On My Mind,” in 2020. Early follow-ups encompassed the introspective synth track “Never Be the Same” alongside covers of Calvin Harris’s “Summer” and Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Stop Now.” With 2021’s “Swimming Pools,” a buoyant exercise in eighties-tinged dance-pop, she located her distinctive voice; the song also became her most-streamed release after appearing in an episode of the American series The Summer I Turned Pretty.

The year 2023 proved especially productive, bringing the standalone cut “I’m Alright,” later placed in a commercial for Warner’s streaming platform Max; the EP Circle of Love, which spotlighted the 2022 tracks “Cloudberries” and “Functional Kind of Love”; and the rousing indie-pop statement “This is My Time,” chosen by her native country for a Eurovision Song Contest semi-final.

In 2024 she ventured into Romanian-language material for the first time, teaming with local artists Stefan Costea on “Lumea ta” and Doc on “Asasin de suflet,” while also releasing the solo piece “Cămașa.” Additional English-language singles such as “Hide” and “Somebody Else But Me” further illustrated her command of guitar-and-synth-driven hooks.
