Biography
Australian singer Gina Gardener first gained notice in Britain through her vocal contribution to Bass Culture's 1995 track "Love the Life." Eurovision ultimately delivered her initial wave of widespread recognition after she was chosen to represent the U.K. with the dance single "Ooh… Ahh, Just a Little Bit." The song climbed to the top of the British charts in April 1996, becoming only the fifth U.K. Eurovision entry—alongside Sandie Shaw's "Puppet on a String," Cliff Richard's "Congratulations," Brotherhood of Man's "Save All Your Kisses for Me," and Bucks Fizz's "Making Your Mind Up"—to achieve that position at home.
In July 1996 the same release reached number five on the Australian charts and later peaked at number twelve stateside. Follow-up single "I Belong to You" entered the British top ten at number six that November. Her third outing, "Fresh!," extended the streak by returning to number one in the U.K. during 1997 while climbing to number twenty-three in Australia. The track surpassed one million copies sold globally and appeared on her debut album, also titled Fresh!.
