Glom, a six-piece ensemble based in Brooklyn, New York, blend moody introspection with straightforward good cheer in their sound. Their approach draws from indie and alternative rock stretching forward from the 1990s, while also incorporating the melodic instincts of 1960s classic rock. Guitar parts that are jagged yet melodic sit at the core of their material, paired with keyboard textures that evoke new wave’s peak era. Agile vocal harmonies supply polish to live and recorded performances alike, while also deepening the emotional weight of the lyrics.

Four high-school friends from the Washington, D.C. region—Sean Dunnevant on guitar, bass, and vocals, Jonathan Crandall on keyboards and percussion, Peter Beiser on guitar, piano, and vocals, and Sahil Ansari on guitar, percussion, and keyboards—had already performed together in several groups whose sets spanned the Beatles, the Strokes, and Nirvana. After college scattered them across the country, they maintained contact, and in 2014 Dunnevant and Beiser started writing original material together. Crandall and Ansari rejoined the project, and with the arrival of Jordan Wolff on drums and keyboards the lineup solidified as Glom. The musicians moved to Brooklyn, began performing locally, and continued refining their songs. Ansari established a home studio where, across eighteen months, the band tracked the ten tracks that formed their debut album, Bond, released in 2019. Favorable notices and grassroots momentum prompted the addition of percussionist Jonathan Harwood as a sixth member. Further studio sessions yielded the follow-up LP Merit in 2020; its title track gained traction at independent radio stations and on streaming platforms.
