Biography
In 1992, vocalist Matte Andersson and drummer Erik Andersson (unrelated) assembled the Swedish death metal group Godgory, initially functioning as an uncommon cover act devoted to the genre. They spent the ensuing couple of years sharpening their abilities through repeated performances of material by fellow Swedes Entombed and Grave, then turned to composing original songs whose demo secured a contract with German label Invasion. The 1996 debut full-length Sea of Dreams revealed a progressive and Gothic orientation distinct from those early reference points, while Shadow’s Dance arrived later the same year and featured an entirely new roster of session musicians. Godgory subsequently switched to the Nuclear Blast roster for their third album, Resurrection, issued in 1999.
