Philadelphia's Grandchildren merge an affinity for 1960s psychedelia with contemporary indie rock and electronic touches. Attention first arrived with their 2010 release Everlasting, after which the group steadily refined its sound, a progression made clear on the 2015 album Zuni.

What began as singer/songwriter Aleks Martray's solo endeavor coalesced near 2008 before expanding into a full band. The resulting debut, Everlasting, appeared in 2010. Grandchildren's follow-up, Golden Age, arrived in 2013 and showcased the multi-instrumental roster of Martray, Russell Brodie, Adam Katz, Tristan Palazzolo, Roman Salcic, and John Vogel. During summer 2015 the third album, Zuni, emerged from a five-piece configuration that no longer included Palazzolo; its darker, introspective lyrics sat atop the band's energetic, experimental orchestral indie electro-psych pop. Vocalist Shari Bolar became a member in 2017 and participated in the self-titled Grandchildren issued in 2019.
