Biography
GWSN unites the seven members Miya, Seokyoung, Seoryoung, Anne, Minju, Lena, and Soso. The act became the first girl group signed to Kiwi Pop, Kiwi Company’s K-pop imprint, and entered the scene at the close of 2018 with the mini-album The Park in the Night, Pt. 1. Two further installments, Pt. 2 and Pt. 3, followed during 2019. Their fourth mini-album, The Keys, later climbed to number six on the Korean charts.
Formed as Kiwi Media Group’s first girl group, GWSN was introduced in June 2018 through a series of individual member photographs and videos. The name, an abbreviation of Gongwon Sonyeo, carries a bilingual double meaning that references the restorative qualities of a park while signaling global ambitions. After their initial television exposure on MNet’s GOT YA! GWSN, the group released The Park in the Night, Pt. 1 in September 2018 and performed the project the next day on M Countdown. Their luminous textures and interwoven melodies earned nominations for Best New Female Artist and Artist of the Year at the MNet Asian Music Awards, along with the New Artist Award at the Seoul Success Awards.
The first return arrived via the club-oriented single Pinky Star (Run), which anchored The Park in the Night, Pt. 2 in March 2019. July brought The Park in the Night, Pt. 3, led by RED-SUN (021). The year closed with four nominations at the 2019 Genie Awards, including one for Top Artist, plus the K-Pop Singer Award at the Korea Culture Entertainment Awards.
In January 2020 Soso paused activities following an injury. Reduced to six members, the group shifted to Kiwi’s newly established label MILES and issued the single Bazooka. The track appeared on the fourth mini-album The Keys, which reached number six on the Korean charts.
