Biography
Emerging from South Korea's competitive music scene, fromis_9 craft sleek electronic dance-pop laced with playful, offbeat melodies. The octet traces its roots to the 2017 Mnet reality series Idol School, where public votes over eleven weeks selected the final roster for Stone Music Entertainment. Their moniker cleverly references that origin, sounding like "promise" while standing for "from I.S."
The lineup originally included Lee Sae-rom, Song Ha-young, Park Ji-won, Roh Ji-sun, Lee Seo-yeon, Lee Chae-young, Lee Na-gyung, Baek Ji-heon, and Jang Gyu-ri. The nine made their first stage appearance at the 2017 Mnet Asian Music Awards in Japan, delivering the energetic pre-debut track "Glass Shoes." Their official introduction arrived with the January 2018 EP To. Heart, which reached number four on the Gaon Album Chart. Later that year Jang stepped away temporarily to compete on Produce 48, leaving the remaining members to issue To. Day, another number-four entry.
Upon her return the group shifted to Off the Record Entertainment and released the full-length From.9, anchored by the buoyant single "Love Bomb." After starring in the web drama Welcome to Heal Inn, they followed with the 2019 album Fun Factory, peaking at number two and featuring the catchy cut "Fun!" Subsequent releases kept them inside the Korean Top Three until From Our Memento Box topped the chart in 2022 and yielded their highest-ranking single, "Stay This Way." That project marked Jang Gyu-ri's final appearance; she departed the following month, leaving fromis_9 as an eight-member act.
