Effervescent six-piece K-pop outfit GFriend, known for a refined sonic approach that readily incorporates guitars alongside sweeping orchestral strings, launched an unbroken streak of Top Ten successes via their first mini-album, Season of Glass, issued in 2015. The sextet delivered their first full-length chart hit, LOL, the following year, then claimed the top slot on the Korean album ranking for the initial time with their fourth EP, The Awakening, in 2017; their fourth chart-topping release arrived when Labyrinth landed in 2020.

Source Music assembled the lineup—Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji—in 2015. Their January 2015 debut EP, Season of Glass, opened at number nine domestically, after which Flower Bud appeared later the same year and climbed to number six. January 2016 brought the Snowflake EP, which advanced to number two and, buoyed by the chart-topping single “Rough,” also reached the Top Ten on Billboard’s World Albums survey. That July’s LOL, the group’s debut studio album, peaked at number three in Korea while registering on the Japanese chart as well.

GFriend returned in 2017 with the number-one single “Navillera,” drawn from The Awakening, which itself became their first album to top the Korean ranking. Subsequent EPs Parallel (August 2017) and their sixth outing, Time for Moon Night (April 2018), followed, the latter reclaiming the number-one album position. During this period the members embarked on their inaugural headlining tour; later in 2018 the Sunny Summer EP rose to number two. Their sophomore studio set, Time for Us, arrived in January 2019, settling at number two at home and number 55 in Japan. July yielded another chart-topping EP, Fever Season, before the Japanese full-length Fallin’ Light appeared on King Records in November and peaked at number seven in that territory.

Marking five years together, GFriend issued two additional EPs, Labyrinth and Song of the Sirens, throughout 2020.
